Christmas 2011 in Hawaii/California and New Year 2012 in New York City
I'm thinking it might be nice to celebrate Christmas in California or Hawaii and New Year in NYC! California have a few events for Christmas - Christmas boat parade, Victorian Christmas, Cornish Christmas and a Hollywood Christmas Parade. Would be great to see Hollywood all lit up for Christmas.
Hawaiians have a luau on the beach for Christmas Day and sing carols alongside the ukelele. It's beautiful too so it would be amazing to celebrate there!
Then NYC is my favourite city EVER! There is so much to do. We attempted to do New Years Eve there a few years ago but it was SO cold and snowing and we couldn't last until midnight so I want to try a second time. The atmosphere is amazing! They also have some awesome events going on over Christmas.
Then on top of all the festive things there is the general sightseeing and having fun! The idea - fun, adventure, experience, sight seeing, drinks and a great time!
I haven't put a budget together or anything..just started thinking about it really (planning WELL in advance!!) but it would be great to hear from anybody interested and put some plans and prices together

When Christmas vacation
Hi love the sound of this
Hi love the sound of this trip, noticed you had posted another trip. Not sure if I would find NYC at Christmas just a touch too cold! Would have preferred it the other way round. Have you firmed up any more travel plans for these two trips? Don't suppose you have easter till the 2may off??!
Ohhhh and if you havent
Ohhhh and if you havent booked anything yet - my advice is to book asap. Its way cheaper to book now than later in the year.
We booked last January and got a great deal for 5 nights in Hotel New Yorker (gorgeous hotel) and flights with Continental for about £800.
A friend of mind contacted the same hotel around October to book just a room and was told it was $700 a night!!
We booked with http://www.letsgo2.com/
Ah, that's fab! Thanks so
Ah, that's fab! Thanks so much! Really helpful. I'm just waiting for people to confirm and then plan to get it all booked :-) super excited!! x
Ok so for NYE get tickets for
Ok so for NYE get tickets for one (or more) of the bars around Times Square.
To be in Times Sq to see the ball drop you have to be in there by lunchtime and then the police fence it off, noone in or out, no toilets, freezing cold (maybe snowing) and you stand there for the next 12 hrs!!
If you goto http://www.newyearseve.com/ there are a whole bunch of restaurants/bars in and around Times Sq. One tickets gets you into lots of bars if you want to bar hop.
We opted for tickets for Ruby Tuesdays which was just behind the ball drop. We paid like $90 but so worth it to be inside in the warm, with toilets and a bar and great location it seemed worth it. Better than that - we got there prepared to buy drinks and found out it was a free bar all night!! We got pretty drunk!
Great atmosphere, met friendly people from all over the world, great DJ and a little dance floor.
Then just before midnight we went out into the street to watch the ball drop and fireworks! Then back in to the bar :)
Trying to get anywhere near Times Sq after lunchtime is impossible - they close down block after block - and if you went all that way to see it then do it right :)
We did the CitySightsNY open top bus tour which covers all the main tourist things we wanted to see (but u said you have already done those). But it did include a free boat cruise around Manhatten which was lovely.
I can't think of anything 'off the beaten track' that we did as it was our first time in NY and we wanted to all the tourist stuff we could.
Any questions?
I just returned yesterday

Hey!
Ah, I bet it was amazing! I absolutely adore NYC!
I would love ANY advice you can give me. I've been a couple of times and done the main touristy things - State of Liberty, ESB, etc so would love to do some of the more unusual things this time round if you can think of any?
And if you feel like doing it all again...come join us!!
