FIG TREE DRIVE

  • 8 miles (13 km) SE of St. John’s, Antigua.

Heading south from the village of Swetes, the winding road passes through the most thickly forested area on the island – Fig Tree Hill. Ironically there are no fig trees here but banana and mango trees line the road. A lovely stop on the way is the Fig Tree Culture Shop where visitors can buy fresh fruits, juices, jams, and locally-made food products. A favorite stopover is Wallings Dam, a historic park with a picnic area, hiking trails, and canopy tours. In the heart of the rainforest is also the Fig Tree Studio Art Gallery, that features the art of local artist Sallie Harker as well as crafts from island’s artists. Most of the tour operators and taxi drivers offer tours of the area.

Located along Fig Tree Drive at Old Road Village, Curtain Bluff Resort  is an elegant all-inclusive resort. Owned by Howard and Michelle Hulford, the resort has 72 rooms and suites, pool, spa, 2 beaches, 2 restaurants, and a beautiful garden setting.
