This natural formation on the Atlantic Coast draws visitors who want to see the dramatic coastline. The bridge itself is a stone arch over the sea; during high tide the area below becomes a pool with the waves cresting over the top of the bridge. It is said that anyone falling from the bridge is bound to drown, and legend has it that many slaves chose this fate by throwing themselves off the bridge into the sea. The area, designated a national park, is also the site of the annual Kite Festival, because the very strong winds off the ocean are perfect for aerial kite maneuvers.
Adjacent to Devil’s Bridge National Park and sprawling over 30 acres (12 ha) is the grand eco-friendly Verandah Resort & Spa . Opened in 2007, this pretty hotel features two spectacular protected beaches, a spa and fitness center, children’s center, tennis court, and three restaurants. The rooms are spacious and easily accommodate small families. Some can be interconnected for larger families. All have air conditioning, flat-screen satellite TVs, and small kitchens.
