Iceland, Sweden, Canada? Late September 2019

I'm smitten with trying to see the Northern Lights!  I've just started researching, but it seems that September / October is a time when the nights are dark enough and the the Earth's magnetic field lets more solar particles interact with the atmosphere creating the aurora seasons. The temperatures in the polar latitudes (above 55 degrees) are pleasant.  I can't go until after my son's wedding 9/20.  I'm flexible on how long a trip.  I would likely only go for a week to 10 days if Iceland is the destination.

I'm probably not interested in booking a long tour - rather perhaps finding day trips.  I tend to stay in budget places as long as they are clean and put my money into activities. When possible, I like to include home stays.

I'm hoping to tie this down in the next couple weeks, and would love to meet up with someone to do at least some of the exploring with.
